I didn't even come across one word never mind a paragraph, page or section promoting stock conservation or sustainable fishing practices. I mean the whole seafood industry could crash if fish stocks aren't properly managed into the future!

Sad, but hopefully something will change soon.

The "BIM Seafood Handbook” has been part-funded by the EU under the 'Operational Programme for Fisheries 1994-1999'
Err - when? Is this for real?
All of the quoted prices are in IR-pound which might be a hint ;)
Furthermore, I equally doubt the statistical figures quoted there about the Irish fleet and fishing ports. These are all completely and utterly fictitious, they were outdated 10 years ago actually, which is a fact. Was this misinformation distributed on purpose through the usual propaganda channels?
I can't prove it for sure, but... come on fellows, - whoever is right in his head can believe this utter populist drivel!
It wouldn't surprise me a bit if this 'informative' pamphlet, which clearly is a reprint from the mid 90's, is there to sell us so called 'new facts and findings' and has therefore served it's purpose? Leave the money wasting issue aside for the time being...
There is my appeal: Please, elaborate and educate, your friends in the pub, even strangers you meet in your local shop, make your voice loud and your concerns heard - and don't be a sheep! Show your free will! Wear your heart on your sleeve for your kids sake! Don't let greed and profit driven fellow human beings walk all over you! We are worth more than that. We are the people in charge of the future of this country! Proof that we deserve the responsibility which is laid upon us now and please - do not force your children to state the inevitable phrase: my parents didn't know any better! - Because you did! No excuses no more... Good Luck and good Health, be good, stay alert and be brave - and always try to be an understanding human being! Slán agus beannacht leat!

Respect Austrian, well said. We need more people to stand up and be counted for what they believe.

No person has a right, just because they choose (and that is the operative word) to invest in a career commercial fishing to think that they now own the resource, in actual fact they don't, we all do.

At best a person who chooses to forge a working life on the marine in effect leases that resource and by right is fully responsible to leave it as they found it.

As has become patently clear by the catastrophic damage wreaked on our seas and oceans this is not the case. The general public need to, and are beginning to with increasing weight, make this very clear to Government.

The status quo will change, it's inevitable, the Victorian era ended a hundred years ago.

Very encouraging comments by 'The Austrian' & 'Ashley Hayden'.

Hope!
