Really enjoyed the seminar Jim. I meant to ask do you think that increased angling pressure is the reason for the declining fish stock?

Thanks Bob for the positive words, personally I have few issues with the show but I really enjoy meeting a lot of past and present customers and having a chat is always good. Its my fourth time now and it's still a bit of a roller coaster but it's also an experience and not necessarily a money making exercise for me. I use the show to promote bass fishing and an awareness of the species in a show largely dominated by two other sport fishing species - salmon and sea trout - this
I know I told the truth on that stage this weekend as I've experienced it during 2012 over an entire season and the previous ten years and I hope it helped you in some way
In respect of your question bob I do not think recreational pressure is in any large way responsible for the decline in the fishing. It may have some effect
The commercial fishing industry is the sole reason for the decline in all of the sea fisheries in this country one is inclined to feel that they may also behind this decline in bass.
I tend to want to be more optimistic and hope its an environmental influence as described in the presentation
It's not an easy task at the moment being involved in bass angling tourism

As I understand it, bass are seldom caught as bicatch by commercial fishing boats in this country. Am I wrong or are you suggesting that illegal bass fishing is to blame?

My personal optimistic belief andhope is mentioned above thanks.

More Bass caught illegaly between Cork harbour and Dunmore east by punts in the fall of the year than the combined Irish trawling fleet. It is very rare that Bass feature as a bycatch on trawlers. The beaches of east Cork and Tramore are particularly targeted.
