A new "frenchy" on the forum

Sun Dec 16, 2012 9:23 am

Hello,

I am a French fisherman (sorry for my very bad english !). I live on the Atlantic coast, just near La Rochelle. I fish on RĂ© island, in kayak. You can take a look at my blog if you want. I also created cofishing : it's a bit like couchsurfing, but for fishing. I let you go to the site if you're interested.

I will visit your beautiful country from 29 May to 8 June 2013 with my wife.
We planned to go up the west coast by car. This is the first time that we go in Ireland.

Of course,I'll take my fishing rod ...

I would like to have contact with members of the forum for informations: where to fish, how, where can we stay, etc ...?

Ideally, I'd like to go fishing with one of you.

In exchange, I'd like to invite you to fish in La Rochelle ...

See you soon.

Welcome to SAI Alain. Interesting concept you have there.

Whereabouts in Ireland do you intend to fish?

Also, I see from your site that you're a Bass angler - you do know that the dates youll be in Ireland is right in our closed season for Bass? Seems a shame to come all this way and then not be able to fish for your favourite fish.

Hi,

yes, i know that the bass fishing is closed this season. But I am also interested in other fishes in sea (pollock, sea trout, for example) or freshwater (salmon, trout ...).

Thank you for continuing to give me informations.

Your site is very interesting.

soon

PS : no problem with my poor english ?

Welcome to the forum Alain.

I'm not familiar with the fishing on the west coast, but as Tanglerat said, if you could tell us in what part of the west you're going to stay, the lads from there will certainly help you.

By the way, your english sounds fine to me... well, I have to mention, I'm french too  . No seriously, it's OK.

Link works if you copy it and past it into your browser address bar.

Dublin-Cork-Kerry-Galway-Mayo and just into Donegal.

Missing out on Co. Clare and most of Donegal!

Hi Alain,

one of our most favoured "Frenchies" Aurelien, still checks in here from time to time and is a brilliant resource for a great many aspects of fishing in Ireland. He may be able to help so I will ask him to say hello too.

Regards,

Hello everyone!

First, thank you everybody for your welcome.

Here is the itinerary we have planned :

Can we do it in 10 days?

Are there good fishing spots on our itinerary?

Where can I fish on the road ?

Don't hesitate to give us your opinion and advice on accommodation, beautiful site ...on the road.

Tips for car rental?

Does the couch-surfing work well in Ireland?

Thank you

A +

Hi Alain
I'm just short south from your planned trip.
Though bass will be protected, I guess that there is a good chance to fly fish for mullets with delicate tackle and small flies.
If you'll be interested in short detour - give me a shout.

Idea of your site - cofishing - is very good!

Hi Alain,

Sure if I can help, I'll do it with pleasure :)
Haven't done a lot of sea fishing this year, but it's like bicycle once you learn you don't forget.
Are you only sea fishing or do a bit of fresh water?
What kind of gear will you bring with you?
For some part of the coast I might not have much knowledge but I sure a lot of lads here will give yiu some heads up.
You'll enjoy your holidays on this beautiful island for sure!!!

Cheers.
Aurelien.

Hi Alain,

Dingle is a great place for fishing. I'd say you'll get loads of good pollock and wrasse fishing in ..maybe Rays too? Lot's of the anglers on here know the place well so I'm sure you'll get lot's of info and have a great trip. Might be worth trying to get a hold of this book too: http://www.dinglefishing.com/page_BobMoss.php

As you're in West Cork a trip to Beara might be worth considering. Very good Pollock and wrasse fishing...and lots of other species too. Paul Harris on this site has a guesthouse and tackle shop down there and gives great advice:

Thank you very much to all members of the forum who have contacted me and offered advices.

I wish you all an Happy New Year 2013.

I changed a little bit my trip. I think that I will not have time to go in the south near Cork, in ten days :

I still need your advice about spots where I can fish, where we can be hosted ...
