I hope so too, unfortunately the old proverb springs to mind: one swallow doesn't make a summer

Nice toy. It's that on the beach where the recent controversy happened about anglers killing more than their limit?
Also, I meant to comment on the other thread about recent IFI catching poachers, but it's interesting that IFI are now linking Slamon, sa Trout and Bass in the one sentence in a press release when it comes to protection & enforcement. Is that a first?

i think its a waste of time using a quad,my boss has one and i can hear him from half a mile away, plenty of time to wake up from my nap

so any lad that has a illegal caught bass hears the quad coming he has plenty of time to dispose of it
with all the high tech cameras about i think it would be better to watch the lads from a distance and get all on camera first and then it would be easier to prove what the lads were up to
i heard a story of illegal netting on a river near clifden a few years ago,it was reported to the fisheries officer who then went in to clifden and hired a bike and when the poachers saw a fellow on a bike with a back sack they thought he was just a tourist and didn't pay too much attention to him, they were caught red handed

No facts, just opinion based. I do hope I'll be proved wrong though

brilliant story, just goes to show that a bit of camouflage can go a long way, I'm just thinking, these German "Lederhosen" would be the appropriate disguise

cheap enough to get after the "Octoberfest" - and they are very durable and stylish too

maybe even grant aided if bought in bulk

There is no doubt that equipment employed by IFI staff, such as the quad photographed by Jim Hendrick featured, will help in the fight against illegal fishing and the purchase is a step in the right direction, well done to IFI, a good initiative.
On the other hand there is an important operational question which needs to be asked and answered:
1. Two men feature in the photographs (an officer driving and an assistant), I take it the quad arrives on site by trailer, how many other members of staff are involved in the exercise, and what is their function when the quad is off patrolling?

I would guess a bit of shovel leaning

I don't know if it's a first that Salmon, trout & bass are mentioned in the same sentence by the IFI but I don't think it could do any harm for the bass whatsoever!
