a lot of governments talk about Sustainable Fishing but looking at http://www.marinetraffic.com/ais/ a few minutes ago this dose not look like Sustainable Fishing to me
http://www.marinetraffic.com 2012-7-26 22-35-19.png

what you can see in the photo is all the fishing boat that have AIS transceivers and transponders fitted already, there are probably other boats there as well as The entire EU fishing fleet over 15 meters was given until 2014 to fit AIS transceivers and transponders so some of the boats might not have them fitted yet

to find out about ais look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automatic_ ... ion_System

i think it would be a good idea if we kept a record of boats fishing in different areas as when you see it in print it gives you a idea of what damage can be done from over trawling or fishing the same area all the time and fishing close to shore or in bays

if the Site Admin and Moderators agree with posting the boat activity here i think it would be good,i don't think it should be any problem as the information we would be posting is freely available on the internet already, all the boats can be seen on http://www.marinetraffic.com and you can use screen grab or any other program to capture the photo

you can also right click on the boat in marinetraffic and click show vessel track and show the track of the vessel for that day like in this photo

another thing i think should be done is that every boat big and small used in irish waters should be fitted with AIS transceivers and transponders as it would be easy see what boats were setting illegal netting as well
