I bought this book off ebay for 99pence last week. I had heard about it and was told it concentrated on Bass fishing in South West Ireland though a British publication from the Osprey series in the 1970's. Its a wonderful book and looks at bass fishing in Youghal Dingle Derrynane and all around. What a fantastic writer and though its a short book it really is brilliantly informative in a no nonsense way. It really rekindled my desire to bait fish again having been solely on the fly rod for last while. Interesting the amount of Bass around then but also the beginning of an awareness for conservation. Of course there is the odd photo of bulk catches which in this day and age are a little off putting but this guy seems to have been a wonderful angler and bass thinker. I recommend it highly if you can pick it up or very interested to hear from others who have read it and what they think pat

I bought Des Brennan's "The Sea Angler Afloat and Ashore" when it first came out in hardback about 1970 (I'm only 25 but own a time machine, honest). I've read loads of angling books since but his is still my favourite even after many rereadings. The technical stuff is almost stone age now, but the fish lore, the mindset, and the little anecdotes are still glorious. Up there with Hugh Falkus on Sea Trout.

Guys - if you get a chance have a look at CG's 'I know a good place' - The chapter Nemesis is about Clive and Des fishing Wexford and the US for bass. I have a feeling the short story was written about 1958.
Also and if you can find it Clive Gammons Salt water fishing in Ireland (out of print) a gem of a book - again Clive and Des fish Wexford for bass pollack and tope circa 1966
Real angling journalism and writing at its very best from two great people.
A nice short article from Waterlog magazine 2004 here
http://www.bassfishing.ie/Waterlog.htm on a return visit to Wexford for Clive

Nice one Jim. Great piece I have a feeling your writings like Des and Clive will be really important work long term too. Would be great to have them compiled in book form. Its great that they can be accessed through the net but would love to see a printed book with your thoughts best pat
