Irish anglers rescued in N Norway

We're in Norway now, and just heard that 4 Irish anglers were rescued by helicopter when they got into difficulties in Lyngenfjord near here. Apparently they were out in F6 winds and, according to the locals, "crashed into the mountain". There seems to have been a second boat there too, and they had to be assisted as well. I think they were in Kværnø boats elwhich are very seaworthy, although I suppose all bets are off in such strong winds.

In another accident near Alta a mother and her 1 year old drowned when their 40ft boat was flipped by a wave, although the other 4 on board managed to swim 2 km to shore. I can't even begin to imagine how cold that was.

It's something to be aware of if you're planning a visit - the fishing is awesome, but mother nature has got to be respected!

It can be an eye opener we have been in skjervoy now for 4 years now and the boats have no VHF ,flares only communication was via mobile phone there was nobody there to stop u going out, u def would not get away with that back in Ireland/ uk , u don't get any trainning on basic boat skill are what to do if engine floods ect ,fantastic fishing tho but safety has to be the main key
