"The ban on fishing in Greystones only applies to the Blue Flag area as well. Cllr. John Brady proposed that restrictions to fishing at the beach should only be in place from June 1 to September 15.

' There are people out there who fish in the dead of winter when there is no one else out there using the beach.'

His proposal was added to the bye-laws as an amendment.

Additional spaces will also be provided at Brittas Bay to facilitate water sports.

Cllr. Conal Kavanagh commented, ' This would bring a level of activity to the beach which isn't there now.'

Cllr. John Snell hoped it would bring some employment to the area, and Cllr. Tom Fortune felt it was a great opportunity to develop water sports tourism in Brittas Bay.

Questions over how the water sports activities would be monitored so as not to interfere with bathers and swimmers using the same waters were raised by Cllr. Vance.

'Unless they are controlled they can be dangerous. Who is going to control where they are going and will they stay in their designated areas and stay away from swimmers?'

The bye-laws were passed with 21 votes in favour, 1 against, 1 not present and 1 abstention."

i think it is a sensible bye law ,what angler in his right mind would set up his gear amongst daytrippers on that strech anyway ,as for the dog walkers the dirty feckers let their muts crap all over the beach from one end of the beach to the other and also 90% dont have their dogs on a lead , a sniper is needed not a dog warden!

I'm not into this dogging lark... Seems like an awful effort what with all the 'rules'....
