 Sooo much I would want to say but I'd get banned from the site!! Whoever did this really needs to be hung, drawn, and quartered! old school style, the aftermath of the Cork disaster should have taught everyone just how valuable these Volunteers are and their equipment, sadly not obvious to the ones who did this they are scum!

The theft of engines around Lough Derg is going on since around 2005 but the latest one really tops it now! A few friends of mine have fallen victim to these criminals in the past and therefore, needless to say, I am very reluctant to leave my own boat moored unguarded, even in busy and public marinas here. Very bad for tourism and businesses in the area, I can assure you.

You can check out a few facts here:

Gardai in North Tipperary are carrying out extensive investigations into an Eastern European-based smuggling ring linked to a spate of thefts of outboard engines from marinas along Lough Derg.
Killaloe Garda station can be contacted on 061 620540, while anyone with information can also call the Garda confidential line on 1800 666 111.

Gardai are now investigating the possibility the outboard engines are being stolen to order and shipped to Eastern Europe.

GARDAI were last night questioning two foreign nationals about the theft of thousands of euro worth of expensive boating equipment, including high-powered outboard engines.

The high-end equipment was taken from locations along the Shannon during the summer.

Stolen engines:
If you’re offered any cheap 90hp outboards, be suspicious: two of them have been stolen from Killaloe-Ballina Search and Recovery Unit’s Noosacat.

guys like these when caught should not be sent through the legal system
IMO they should be locked in a room with about a dozen folk who have been rescued or helped by the service
this will defo make them think twice about doing it again that is if they are able to walk again.

Better if they find themselves stranded in need of rescue services then realize they won't be rescued because it was they who took the outboards from the rescue boats!!!
