ray wings

hi all i was in tescos a few days ago and i noticed they were selling dabs and i was a bit peeded off then i noticed that also on sale were ray wings that peeded me off even more as ive read in the angling press that ray numbers were slowing increasing and it seems a major part of this was because rays are to labour intentsive to process so the commericals dont target rays now after wiping out cod soles plaice to name a few species it seems to me that tescos now wants to help reduce rays and dabs any way just my rant to get it off my chest and see what any ones elses opinion on this is

the fact there for sale means they have been caught comercially.and ray has always been a stable part of our diet in dublin for years[when we can afford it ] cant really see what the problem is. tescos sell fish.trawlers catch them. we buy them.

Ray are my favourite fish to eat, abolutely delicious, Tesco selling Ray is nothing new.
Never saw anywhere selling dabs to tell you the truth, apparently they're tasty too.

I have not seen dabs for sale either
I reckon your dabs were either lemon sole or witch.
Dabs are rarely landed by Irish boats and I cant see tesco importing dabs.

As for the ray
Ireland landed pretty much thier entire quota of 1215 tonnes of rays and skates in 2011. This will give you an idea of how big the market is for ray.

I hate to see Ray wings for sale because a lot of the time they are still alive when they cut them off.

I remember the times when you got the prices from the Dublin fish market, on RTE radio in the morning time, it was either just before 10 or 11 and they always gave the price for dabs, I missed that report when they cut it, but that is some time ago now. I used to listen for the price of salmon to see how much we were getting tipped off by the local buyer.
