We need to get together on this fast...... as a regular fisher in greystones and its surrounds I would be against any ban from this area, yes its understandable ppl want to swim but give them a safe area to do so. and lets see what the councils proposals are.. in the clip they mention the economic value of water sports have they taken in to the account what fishing tourism does?? we really need to get on top of this .... THANKS rustyhookthomas for finding this!

is there an email address available to contact anyone regarding this matter?
can't hurt to have an email from the likes of myself who travels down from belfast to fish the proposed banned beaches and spend money in the local economy.
can't hurt to let them know the subject has reached attention from this far north :!:

someone organise a match on that beach and get a big crowd of anglers in it to demo the spending power of anglers.

East Coast Raiders are fishing it tomorrow for our Christmas Competition.

If the ban is confimed to a bathing area i.e. between the lifeguard flags, its common sense to fish somewhere else anyway.

Here's some email addresses of local councillors. I'll be certainly emailing them to let them know how anglers feel and how much they spend. Big Mick spends a fortune in that chipper in the Harbour

We also need to think as non anglers to debate both sides of the discussion, these areas have been good on the whole to us all for many generations, it's bad enough telling kids and grandkids about the fish we could catch years ago, but to tell them of areas we could fish years ago would be sad! And the same goes for the swimmers and dog walkers being told the same!

Keep the hair on lads, designated bathing places in Greystones would boil down to safe places in the harbour, the mens bathing place near the south beach, and as Alby pointed out between the lifeguards flags (when they are on duty), no harm in that.

The real issue here is how Irish angling interests are represented politically, at present and into the future, and the answer unfortunately is, "they are not".
