Where do you dump your left over bait?

Where do you dump your left over bait?

Is it back in the water or home in the bin. I had a complaint about anglers dumping bait and a dog eating it.

Hmm I try and not waste any in fact I'll try and freeze it BUT if its gone past that "stage" runny smelly ect I'll give it back to the sea, helps fatten up the peelers for next year :D... as for dogs robbing bait, I've had dogs rummage through my beach buddy looking for fish bait.. and the owners merely say .. opps sorry.... (dont get me wrong here Im a dog owner myself) BUT the bylaws about dogs on beaches are they are only permitted on beaches after a certain time and they must be within control of thier owners at ALL times ...ie if the dog comes when called off the lesh thats fine however if the dog doesnt... it must be kept on a lesh... though this will only involve a very argumentitive point for any dog owner ;)

Oh and all the info is on the back of the Dog Licence hehehe great fun to bring up when they get crabby with you

I would definitely throw it back into the sea - nice meal for the crabs and small fish. Definitly the most environment friendly way of disposing of it, once the crabs get going there wont be any waste.

with pennies being as tight as they are i always bring any left over bait home and re freeze it. so the next time i plan on fishing a beach on a flooding tide i walk out to the low tide line and bury it directly in front of where i'm gonna be fishing. that way as the tide pushes me back up the beach i'll be casting out that area. a bit of extra scent and free food for the fish can't hurt your chances for a bit of interest  :P

Haha couldn't blame you

Mackeral I throw in the sea or freeze depending on whats left and also condition, I usually bring everything else home to freeze and wrappers go in my bucket to be dumped when I'm home.

To be honest I have no problem refreezing most baits but just not too many times, Have caught just as much fish on re-frozen baits. I think wrapping them properly will help alot with the quality when thawing out. Mackeral I wrap in newspaper which helps keep it tough, sandeel in the packs wrapped in news paper can be good as long as the bellies aren't splitting and it reduces freezer burn, mussels i'll just freeze in a ziplock/sandwich bag, sometimes I add a bit of salt to them to toughen slightly, and frozen blacks in newspaper also. I think that some baits like frozen blacks, mussel and razor for instance can be a killer bait the more they are re-frozen especially at this time of year!
Just my tuppance worth, I know some people won't advise refreezing sandeel for instance, but it works for me and saves buying bait too ;)
Although a thermos flask for the sandeel on the beach keeps them in perfect condition for refreezing and prevents waste ;)

What was the question again
