At least the nets were seized, which is a positive sign. As to an end to illegal netting, our best chance of seeing that happening is a total cessation of drift netting, preferably by choice via a realistic licence buy-out scheme.
The wheels of politics do turn slowly, so it might take a couple of years. On the other hand, come the next election here, we might be fortunate enough to get a reasonably enlightened and progressive minister who might move things along a bit. Fish can't vote or campaign, so we have to do it for them.
