Bass on Beara Peninsula

I am spending a week on Beara in late June, I know its good for Pollack but are there Bass marks on the Peninsula?

Hi Jon,

Bass on the Beara are a work in progress as very little bass angling is done. I have shore fished the Beara every year since 2005, returning two and three times a year since 2008, in fact I have just returned from a blown out fishing trip on the peninsula yesterday.

Personally I do not target bass on the Beara as there are plenty at home in Wexford. From experience and keeping an ear to the ground most bass on the peninsula are caught in the late Autumn and winter, Ballydonegan and a mark near Eyeries being great prospects with plugs or bait.

As part of the experience by all means have a go for bass, but better still why not over the week have a species count, its great fun.

Thanks Ashley, I am not fixed on Bass fishing, the main reason for going to Beara is that I have been advised that there's a wide range of species and different fishing styles. I am taking spinning, fly, bottom fishing tackle and float and feeder rods for mullet. So hopefully be able to get to grips with a few fish. Only problem is I know from past experience the tendency to carry to much gear and spend time setting up different rods, rigs etc.. can cause problems so I think we will focus on different styles of fishing on different days. Thanks for the advice and I will post how we get on.

Since I moved to live on the Beara 7 years ago we have recorded bass to 14 plus pounds, taken in all honestly mainly by accident on baits meant for huss, rays etc or on lures often meant for pollack.
