The dangers of NOT wearing lifejackets and "spider crabs"

Recently the report into the foundering of the Duggies Pride (May 2010, Greenore Point, Wexford) was published.
One peson was drowned in the incident. The boat was apparently swamped when returning to the shore overloaded with "spider crabs".

It highlights the dangers of going "spider crab" fishing in the middle of the night especially without the correct safety gear.

The full report is here: http://www.mcib.ie/reports/?thisid=1990

Let's not speak ill of the dead, hottopic. At least, not on a public forum. There are family in mourning, grieving the loss of their loved ones. Let's not add to their misery.

I've just read the report.

It's very tragic indeed!!

I can't agree enough with the family's recommendations that any boat leaving a harbour should notify officials of its departure, intentions, number of Crew & identify its crew.

My thoughts are with his family.
