Staff from the eastern river basin district acting on the information suplied deployed staff in the area and last night apprehended the person in question, seized the net ...and a prosecution is pending, a good result and a big step in the right direction.

Andy Kendrick Thats brilliant news! I would love to see it made illegal for any non commercially registered person to own put out nets to catch fish.
Anything more than a landing net (maybe a keep net for small fish in a competition) simply is not neede...d by any non commercial person!See More

Darren Nugent we badly need something like this up in the north here...i live and fish in and around the mouth of carlingford lough and there does be alot of bass about at times...only thing here is that nearly every bass that is caught is killed and the local anglers cant see past all this and into the furture...also the netting is... a big big problem.....up until 10years ago my family had a liscense to net salmon and sea trout along the shore and netting a bass of 14/15 pounds weight was nothing special,so many times we seen shoals of 100's of bass.....lets hope in years to come with a little help and commen sense it can come back to that..Darren

Irish Bass Have just been told of somebody trying to use the new IFI hotline to report Illegal bass netting. The result was that the person who phoned ended up giving the operator the phone numbers of the local IFI baliffs. I know it's early days but we deserve better than this. We have already contacted the IFI to try to find ou...t what is happening. We'll let you know when we find out more.
