Dead Lugworm!
Folks up at Castlerock know anything about this?

Doesn't necessary have to be pollution. Lugworms do leave their burrows for spawning at spring tides up to late October and at this time deaths following spawning can reduce the numbers of lugworm on a beach by as much as 40 per cent and therefore many dead worms could be found on beaches.

Strange one this. Never seen this happen with lug worm but i've seen it happen with ragworm they leave there burrows when spawning and get washed ashore in larg numbers.

very true.....thats what this turned out to be! just some old worm casings from the local beds being washed ashore. nothing sinister!

Did not have any effect up the coast at Benone , over 200 fish caught during UPC Closed Gold Medal on Sun 26th.
Bass 62cm , mullet up to 51cm , flounder up to 42cm , turbot,plaice, weaver

Over 3 sessions 21 fish ( mullet 47)
2nd also had 21 fish so we had to go to the person with the longest fish (flounder 40)

Over the 3 sessions there were 351 fish caught
