hi lads was any1 on here fortunate to see this programme 'end of the line' last nite on rte1 from 23.40-00.40.i was a programme that was concentrating on fishing stocks all over the world in different continents and how rapidly they are decreasing.they reckon by the middle of this century if something isnt done we will all be in huge trouble with fish stocks. i found the eu fisheries meeting in luxembourg interesting on the bluefin tuna.did any 1 see?.also with the bahamas where commercial fishing is banned and the rapid increase in stocks was overwhelming.any1 who seen this wat did ye think?

Hi mate I watched it [end of the line] , and a fine but scary and upsetting documentary it is although the truth hurts. First thing I can say is the majority of people on the planet don't fish so how would the mass population of the planet really know what's going on ?. These are the worlds voters !!, only people involved in marine science, angling or commercial fishing would know what is really happening and commercial fishermen are the fundamental problem who advise in most cases against anglers and scientists.

This trend has to change through education to the mass public and that documentary took a giant leap towards achieving this. I hope every angler on this forum signed the ocean 2012 petition ? , which is a petition set up to try and get a complete overhaul to the current ridiculous EU common fisheries policy which is a total failure and goes against scientists advice in the extreme !!. Dedicated marine reserves are the only way forward, I would actually like to see a complete ban on commercial fishing worldwide for the next 5 years, then a total ban on any species that is under threat and the strictest of enforcement to uphold these laws.

Local boats should only fish local waters and boats from Spain should not be off the west coast of Ireland , and French boats should not be fishing of Senegal etc. etc. The EU have a lot to answer for , like the near extinction of blue fin tuna !!, and they made Ireland reduce our 250 mile limit to just 12 so European fleets could plunder our waters as they have nearly wiped their own waters out ! this kind of fishing is madness and not sustainable.

We need to go back in time and fish with small boats not huge big factory ships and stop all the nasty modern fishing techniques which give the fish of the seas and oceans no chance. It is a clinical fact now known to our EU politicians that the seas are being depleted and many species are under the threat of extinction, they don't care they only see money and power as they are fulled by greed, it's up to us the people of the planet to take our seas and oceans back from politicians and commercial fishermen and say no more, enough is enough we want healthy seas for the future generations on this planet.

One more thing scientists now have a direct link between the absorption of c02 and fish droppings, basically fish stop the build up of c02 in our atmosphere as their poo absorbs it, since the seas have started to be seriously commercially exploited we have seen an increase in c02 levels !! draw your own conclusions but I'll sign off with this "for everything a reason" remove these things and have drastic consequences.

Cheers dude, I have sat tv but mostly watch the Irish channels !!, and again earlier this evening their was a great nature documentary on the wild wolves of Canada and it was brilliant :D . When you see all the injustices and exploitation's in the world and you want to change them you feel small and insignificant, but like the little snowball it can grow to a great size with a bit of help. We all need to stand together world wide that voice will be heard !

Their is also another documentary called "The Cove" , not for the faint hearted :( . All we can do is lobby and fight the good fight. It used to be mainly the sea that got exploited but now the freshwaters of Ireland are under attack from a few visitors who have no regard for nature, heritage or human well being they are parasites and must be stopped XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX cry:. So many problems face us these day's it's enough to drive a man crazy !

have seen it a few times now and still shocked, sickened and saddened by it. the eu quota system is a joke at best, and criminal at worst :x . why ask scientists for their expert opinion if they are gonna ignore everything they are telling them :?: :?: :?:

Its simple really, our governments are dominated by commercial interests. If they adhered to the scientists advice then they would be professionally lobbied until they change their minds. Its all about the here and now, its all about commercial profits and of course consumer demands. We are but parasites on this planet. Take Take take until you can take no more then move on....
