Remember seeing report/photos last year (cant remember where unfortunately) of skate caught from a pier in west scotland that were estimated at 200lb+, the lads had to walk the fish they caught round the side of the pier and land them at a little beach - more than one caught over a few sessions aswell so no fluke - the place had a reputation for such fish.
So I'm not too suprised to see such a story on gilbeys blog, only suprise is its taken this long.
A fine catch however, shame you have to rely on measurement of wingspan to estimate weight, be great to get it on a set of scales and know for sure its true mass.

I think they were caught in Fenit before. I remember something about a guy from the old Celtic club getting one in the late 80s off the cause way.
They catch them off Valentia in the boats not too far off shore, No reason why they couldn't be caught from one of the deep shore marks.
Polo mint rig anyone ?
