Search and rescue helicopter bases in Dublin, Shannon and Sligo are to remain with 24-hour cover, but the Waterford service operated from Waterford regional airport is to be reduced to a 12-hour, daylight only service. This would save an estimated €1m per year.

Fishermen's organisations, RNLI members and politicians in the southeast have expressed outrage at the downgrading of the service

this is ridiculas to save 1 million euros. but then again some one has to pay for all these junkets our goverment ministers like to go on. sure it will only be a few fishermen who will pay for it with there lives. and sure we all want to die for our country.why dont they start knocking off life support machines in the hospitals they could save millions of euros or maybe start gassing everyone over the age of eighty that would bring in another few bob. how can they put a price on apersons life and mess with a service that has saved thousands of people over the years.

Campaign already started hope for a meeting of all that go to sea this week in Waterford but up against it because this GOV. has already lost the next election so they just do not care.
Please help if you can.
