Has anyone else noticed what must be hundreds of thousands of empty butter tubs washed up around west Waterford beaches? I've seen myriads of them on Ballyquin, Ardmore and Whiting Bay. I'm guessing that it's the same scenario in east Cork and on the other side of Dungarvan.
The fact that they're there really bugs the shite out of me: if I scatter my domestic waste on a beach, I will quite rightly, have a fine for littering slapped on me; but it seems some transport vessel can jettison tons of rubbish in blithe disregard for the law.
I'd really like to report this, as there may well be some kind of log for ships that have lost cargo overboard; but I'm not sure who I should go to. Any suggestions?
Cheers,
Lodore

Saw loads of them last week offshore.
I think they are from the containers that were shed a while back.

I hope this place is spotless by the time i get down Sean,if ya know what side your bread is...
As jim said a few containers were lost in rough seas a while back ,And the south coast has been littered since with butter tubs recently .

Annoying to see i,m sure, but at least it wasnt a chemical spillage or something that could have seriously harmed nature etc

a friend of mine was down on an east cork beach about 2 weeks ago and he was on about them. he said the place was covered in them. he had his fancy new italian girlfriend with him and wanted to show her our beautiful beaches. needless to say she wasnt impressed.
the big tides last week might have washed them back out and up to ye cos i was down that way durin the week and didnt even see one.
