this group has a petition to sign against open fish farms and bad farming practices - its to be sent to the CEOs of the two largest fish farming corporations
I have signed the petition, but I couldn't find out if they run any fish farms here in Ireland yet or do they plan to do so in the near future?

It says on the site...'Two companies -- Marine Harvest and Cermaq -- are the world's largest salmon producers, with open net cage operations in Norway, Scotland, Ireland, Chile and Canada.' I've signed it too, the sea trout stocks in the West of Ireland are a tiny fraction of what they were. In large part, due to the sea lice infestations caused by these farms.
cheers martin for that link, four in clew bay signed..

While some believe that fish farming is the solution to overfishing, they do not take into account the inherent inefficiency of animal agriculture. Just as it takes 12 pounds of grain to produce a pound of beef, it takes 70 wild-caught feeder fish to produce one salmon on a fish farm. Time magazine reports that it takes 4.5 kg of ocean-caught fish to produce 1 kg of fishmeal that is fed to a fish on a fish farm.
