When I hear things like going on it makes me feel sick
There's alot of netting going on all around our coastline both North and South.
These people need to be stopped before they wreck the fishing for the rest of us all because of their greed.
I personally think it's not policed enough although maybe it's not that easy so don't want to annoy anyone by saying this.
The Central fisheries board and other connected agencies/bodies rely on us anglers reporting any suspicious behaviour we see.
That's all very well but could more be done on this issue? If so, what?

I recently had a disscusion with an ERFB officer for wexford and he said they dont have the man power to get to every reported net but would do his best to get to the nets that i had reported.

lads i was out plugging yesterday and stumbled across lads setting nets in the area ! one was about 50 yds long and the second net was about 100yds long ! i contacted the fisheries board and the guy told me that he would not be down to inspect the area until today ! there was nothing i could do so i left it upto him but as i was leaving there was seagulls and cormorants caught up in the net and it was only in the water about an hour ! id hate to see the damage they done to the wildlife after a night in the water  its a fcukin disgrace lads and they have got to put a stop to this !! but the funny thing is the number i had was to report an illegal fishing activity in the WEXFORD region but when i rang it the guy told me he was in DUBLIN !!! and could not get down until the following day !! wexford is the main place in the country for illegal bass netting and yet there is no officers around when you need them ! it an absolute joke !

Well said boycie.
The attitudes you came accross and the answer you got when you phoned to report it is exactly what we are all up against.
No-one seems to care or be prepared to do anything about it.
If your fishing on your own when you see netting going on you can't put yourself in harms way by approaching the people involved as it could get nasty very quickly.
There's no point in putting yourself in danger which is why you done the right thing and phoned to report it.
But by the time they get there,if they go down at all the people are gone and they have got away with it.
It makes me so angry

thats what i said to some bloke on here! just ring them and say theres i guy lifting bags of suspect packiging out the water, could be drugs as he is very shifty looking? if i see nets i,ll lift them and burn them, why should i spend my time trying to catch the odd one and them arseholes lift loads in one go and ruin it for everyone else!, another thing is get as much description as possible on the boat and where he,s moored etc etc ,and post it up on this website, you never know?

Take a photo with the phone, call 999, and say I want to report a crime in progress, to what number can I send a photo right now.
Crimes in progress are treated more urgently by the gardai due to the greater likelihood of a successful outcome for the costs involved.

It's also a good idea to be on first name terms with the local fishery board officers. If you have their mobile and don't abuse it you can send a text and a photo. They're only human, and don't work 24 hours a day 7 days a week, but if they can, they will come.

Also, nothing helps more than a car registration number, colour and type called in to the FB and gardai. If the officers are not able to do something on the day, they have a line of enquiry which enables them to spot the vehicle on later occasions at another fishing area, observe, and set a trap.
