beach water quality declining

What's the story with Clifden though, kind of stands out along a coastline full of blue flags?

theres always been a problem there - think its fairly simple - pumping the sewage out there with little or no processing

maybe theres something particular about the water movement there which hold it all in place

the sewerage plant was to be completed in 2005 but doesnt seem to have improved the situation

I saw the same reports in England and the same issue was here as there. The samples were taken in August and extra run off of water due to the heavy rain falls last summer caused more sewerage to run directly into the sea.

no surprise to see Dublin beaches are a f**king disgrace,is it any wonder theres no fish,only our species are happy to live in their own sh*te.

i was born and reared at beach road clifden, the problem with the water quality is that the "treatment" plant was built in the 50,s when the population was 500, the population is now 2000 and no up-grading at all has been carried out on the plant!!!!!!
allof the efluent from the town flows directly and untreated into the harbour!!!!!!
it is not advisable, to put it mildly, to swim, fish or gather vshellfish from the quay to the boat club at the end of the road.
the e.coli readings from the beach are posatively frightening and it is only a matter of time before somebody becomes seriously ill or worse.
typical of the county council to let things get as bad as they have, they dont care about our coastal waters and they never will

yea a quick google search will have post from tourists mentioning the wonderful sight of brown trout in the bay!

probably one thing that is not helping it the way the beach in clifden is facing,its facing inland towards the river and the tide holds back a lot of the fresh water and sewage some times,you can see in the photos the quality of the water when the tide was coming in and then when it was going out,that was on 23 may,also a lot of plastic bags floating around

i know people who were refused planning for houses in connamara because of septic tanks and they had to spends thousands of euro on treatment plants and but yet its ok for the County Council to pump raw sewage out the bay
