Wasnt too sure if this was the right place to post but he goes.
I wa sout this morning walking the dog along a popular east cork road which has an esturary of sorts which opens to the see near the power station in whitgate a lot of people are seen here collecting bait at times and i myself have caught a few fish here but the last few months there are no signs of fish at all, not even the mullet which are usually milling around, but today as i was walking along i noticed at low tide that there were a number of fish fillets lying on the side of the sandy beach near the wall i first thought maybe they fell off a passing trawler or somrthing but then i noticed that they were alomost at the end of the estuary near the bird sign if anyone knows the spot it would be pretty lucky for them to drift all this way i decide to take a closer look and they were bass fillets no mistaking the skin and markings, there was at leats 7 or 8 fillets and some were larger but most were small i didnt have my camera in the car so i couldnt get evidence. But i was thinking maybe illegal netted filleted then someone came along and they were dumped???? There were near a small fresh water inlet too!!!!

worth photographing and taking one to the local fisheries board to check out.
not sure if illegal netsmen (or women) are in the business of filleting on the spot instead of just hightailing it out of there, but worth reporting anyway.

It's funny you bring this topic up - you've just made me realise something........
For years i've fished Passage East in Waterford and have rarely blanked (twice in 3 years I think). Went out about 6 weeks ago there and the fishing was really quiet - hadn't had a tap in about 4 hours. I fished a dropping tide from high water down. After the 4 hours I noticed a flock of gulls really close to the shore and plucking stuff out of the water. When I went to see what they were eating I noticed bits of fish fillets floating in the water. I just presumed that I was left over from trawlers or something but I soon noticed 2 stranges looking mounds in the sand which had become exposed. When I kicked the mounds I found they were made entirely of fish fillet skins. Cod, whiting herring and bass fillets mainly - in fact one bass fillet was so big I had to take a picture of it (I put my size 10 boot in the picture beside it and the skin was at least twice the length of it).
I didn't really know what to make of it but it sounds awfully familiar to what you saw
Also you should get the numbers of your local bailiffs just for future reference
