Hi all
brand new to this formus...hopefully u can provide some much needed assistance to me
booked to go to kenmare on friday... got some info on where to fish but looking at you guys (and gals) some of u seem to have been there and done the fishing in the area....so the obvious question is, as we r stopping in kenmare for a week, what are the best fishing tackle shops around the area, where are the "best spots" to fish in the area. We are not goin for anything special just want rock / shore fish and to get into summut like congar / skate / wrasse ........well absoluty anything as long as we catch. Also what r the "best baits" and where in the area can we get crab / Black lug shud our supplies run out etc etc.
Basically any info of the local fishing scene wud be great.
thanks all in advance of any most welcome replies. :D :D :D

http://www.sea-angling-ireland.org/shor ... 20ring.htm

search on the forums for any of the marks listed up to around 14.
Best tackle shops would be in Killarney and Tralee, not sure if there is one in Killorglin

I would advise you to bring a fork you may have to dig your own bait. Unless you can find someone who does it locally. there should be shops that sell Mackeral and sandeel ask around when you get there where you might get fresh mackeral. thin strips and float fishing will be good for pollock. Bring some spinners like German sprat.

Just a quick note to say thanks to all for your advice. We went to kenmare 2 weeks ago fished the dingle and the beara peninsula. Weather was "shorts and Tshirts" most of the time and although we "topped up our tans" it wasnt quite right for the fishing but great never the less. Fished places like blackwater / sneem / lambs head / kilcatherine. Didnt catch a massive amount of fish in numbers but we did get mackrel (spinning and bait) / pollock (spinning and bait) / wrasse (spinning and bait) / dog fish / bull huss and conga (all off the shore). Lost some gear on the rocks / landscape but we mostly lost it while fighting to bring fish in (had loads of "massive rod bends") which although it p*ssed us off a bit   it was great fun fighting with them. Took bait of peeler / black lug / sand eel / mackrel....... black lug was ok for wrasses and sand eel got a few bites but most of the action was on the mackrel. Caught some of the mackrel but there is a fish processing plant a couple of miles outside kenmare (over the bridge on the kenmare river turn right straight away down the road) we went there and they were VERY reasonable think it was 12 - 15 mackrel for 5 euros !!!! great , the local tackel shop was good value and friendly as we had to visit a few times for weights !!!! plus the local pubs were good as well   !!!!! ... will be goin again next year (if the boss allows   !!!!) same area but probly a different town. If anyone needs any info will do me best to help out ..thanks again
