ripoff republice strikes again...

Mon Jul 28, 2008 2:17 pm

I was in a certain dublin angling shop over the weekend just browsing around as you when i heard the man at the counter ask for some 8oz leads..the owner lobbed a few up on the counter and when the customer asked how much he was told 3 Euro EACH(I know lead is expensive but i get impact leads for 2.50 down here, still expensive BTW and the ones this shop was selling were the really cheap ones where the eye of the weight is made from lead aswel)...The man was shocked and commented on the price but he must have been stuck because he took them anyway. He seemed the quiet type aswel and maybe didnt want to cause a fuss so i felt bad for him...Now needless to say this short sighted shop owner must have been delighted with their sale but what they didnt realise is that customer will probably never go back to this place again and this will cost them more in the longrun..
As i browsed further i noticed a penn 525 supermag(a discontinued unpopular version of the famous reel) with a for sale sign hanging off it..225 Euro down from 335! Are you having a laugh boy you Literally would get 2 of those from england for that money. I know things are dearer in this country as a rule due to our economy, exchange rates and Freight costs but I as a business student in college can see a niche in the market for an angling superstore with competitive prices..and put these greedy thieves who are ruining the sport for everyone out of business...
Ok rant over..I hope i havent crossed any lines here mods.. :?
We should set up a sticky with tackle shops to avoid lol

Hey Gearoid,

Just seeing thisnow. I hate to hear of this sort of thing. This is the reason why so many Irish Anglers shop online. Was it a store in Temple Bar?

Thought about this one many times myself. There's just not the market in Ireland. By the time you factor in the things above, you then become uncompetive in the UK, which means that you'll never pay the mortgage with this one in Ireland. :? Pity.....
