what do you's think about the caption with the picture of a 1000Lb dead shark hanging from a rope?

Your man dinsmore is always goin on about catch and release and qoutas and all the rest of it and then he allows a picture of a dead 1000LB shark in the mag. I wouldnt mind if the related story actually condemned the capture by rope and killing of the shark but from reading there story you would get the impression that they think its bloody marvellous. Im no big greenpeace head either and like to keep and eat the odd fish but i just thaught that was the ultimate in hypocrisy, its not even related to angling, the thing was caught by a rope around the tail, next he'll be allowing pictures of harpooned whales in the mag.

just my opinion, thats all.

It said they put a rope around its tail and it dragged the boat eventully it drowned, What a horrible death I think its sick and has no buisness being published in an angling magazine in such a way.

super sub you aint!

I checked this out as its far from what we expect from IA.

It turns out a sub-editor toook it upon himself to insert a piece when he found the news section was a bit light. Don't think it will happen again!

Shark on a rope

First let me say i did not see this angling magazine but i do know it is standard practice when a large shark is fouled in nets that they tow it back wards to kill it before removing it from the net its going on all around the coast .
It still not right but i suppose they log it as a bye catch and that makes it LEGAL.
Its time we woke up and became more active

thats interesting and makes complete sense - and a pity it does!

The Shark was not fouled they accidently hooked it while fishing for striper's and then tied a rope around its tail. They could have let it go but decided a large shark's death was worth a trophy photo....

I was a little confused as to why this was in Irish Angler as well and did a little research into the story on the net, turns out it is not a great white as stated in the article, but a large female mako shark. The same photos are available on the following website,
http://www.snopes.com/photos/animals/yarmouth.asp

Looks like this image has been doing the rounds for quite a few years. A quote from the guy who caught her seems to infer that he didn't want to kill her but the other guys on the boat did before he could do much about it, desperate.
