I am totally gutted by this. I am boycotting all Jap made goods as and from today and letting their distributors know why. Absolutely no need for this "research" today. Have canceled order for Shimano reel for a start.
(don't care where it's made it's still a Jap product.)

These guys http://www.seashepherd.org/longline/ and greenpeace are doing their best but your idea of a global jap boycott sounds good to me.
