I have recently brought in these new collapsable crab pots into the shop as many have asked about them. im intending to try one out soon, but im just wondering what exactl is the law on this..i was told no licence is required if the catch is for personal consumption. anyone shed any light.

i was told once by a commercial fisherman that as long as your not deemed to be fishing commercially you can set pots for personal use, i wouldint be suprised if there were bye laws for lobster fishing though, worth checking it out first.

Its a bit of a grey area really. Observe the minimum sizes though or your liable to prosecution, 87mm in south(eye socket to end of carapace). Also do not take v notched or you'll face the same problems. This is for lobsters. Crabs are 130mm across the carapace. Not sure what the story is in the north.

yep the V notch is cut in the tail fan - leave it if you see that
