WORLD SHORE 2008

The dates for the 2008 World Shore Championships are as follows
21st - 28th September , Venues will be in the Hossegor / Biarritz area

Interesting, The last time the world shore was held in Biairritz an Irish man, Mick Kane I think , won the individual gold medal.... that put's it up to the team selected in january.

What is the story with the youths not going to the world championships. Do the other home nations not send their youth teams. The English do send youth teams as I saw them with their bronze medals in a magazine recently. Great experience for them.

If it financial, could the youth teams not get their own sponsorship to cover whatever cost their is. There are probably plenty of people out there will to help.

As Eric said their is a fantastic U21 team this year and I agree with him because I know the 3 Tralee Bay lads and they are excellent anglers, they should be given an opportunity to prove themselves against the best in the world, surely that the point in making a national team. Surely this would be a great incentive for more young anglers sticking with angling. The numbers seem to be pretty low at the provencial fish-offs.

Is there some point that I am missing.

the last time the irish youths went to the world champs was in brilinton england 6 yrs ago since then the IFSA have not sent a team even though ireland got an individule silver medel that year they say its to due with funding and insurance crap if you ask me :evil: :twisted: i agree the under 21s have a great team i know the 3 lad from tralee well. better than some of the seniors around, well disciplined and capaple to do the job in hand . :D :D :D

its mainly due to lack of sponcership, think of the cost it would be to send 3 teams away

Cost to send 1 team approx 1200 euro per member , the Senior team pay
most of this themselves !.

The idea behind sending the youth teams to the Home Nations was not
only costs but, the fishing would be similar to what we have at home, seems sensible to me.

I understand the costing is high but with some planning ie sponsership and some sort of funding committe set up to lobby for lotto and youth grants and the anglers themselves with their clubs organising quizes etc. we fund our juniors by having a couple of bag packs a year which brings in E2-2500, our city council gives E400 then we sometimes run a open shore e6-700 thats almost 3000 for junior use to send our anglers to interprovinial comps with expenses and if one of our anglers get on the irish team which we have had 1 angler on the team for the last 5 yrs, they are giving help on expenses, if we can do that surly central committe can do something to send them to world champs. As for having the same type of fishing staying home for home internationals how come the english etc send their juniors away not the right attitude imo.These juniors are our future blood reward them if they make the grade or you will find that will leave our sport. I think it is happening already where only 2 full teams fish the interprovinal under 21s last weekend fair play to young peacock from ulster who traveled and done well .Any way thats my 2 cents worth for what its worth. :( :( :( :(

Given we raised 520 for the RNLI, would there be people out there willing to put up some kit or similar, and we'll see what we can raise for them here? Just a thought, JD will probably kill me :roll: :D :wink:

what about a section in tackle for sale , and money gets paid into a paypal accout , basically someone puts up a piece of kit for sale and it gets paid into a central charity fund , excess money going to rnli if its really sucessful .
I'm not sure of the technocalities with this though .

Seems an awful shame not to give them a chance to travel and compete, a levy of some sort on all the senior clubs wouldn't be out of order :?

This was tried a number of years ago - I think only about 11 clubs came up with the Levy - if I remember it was £10 or 10 punts . At the time there were probably near 180 Affiliated Clubs.

Personally i dont think that the senior clubs, with a few exceptions, are intrested in juniors as in fund raising :( , i still maintain that Centrel council should set up a Fund raising committee for juniors with the help of the clubs :D , as for ten euros or pounds clubs :shock: should donate at lease E100 have it added on to the affilation fee :D , just increase the membership fee of the club x the number of anglers 8) .thats one suggestion. :o :D
