tape or tip lights

after a (almost broke my aa match) cast where the line caught on the tip light holder, removed light before cast, had checked before hand and line was running free, so from now on i am using reflective tape, so just wonder what do you guys use and why?

I got mighty brite tape off crazyplums from wsf, which is a rival forum based in UK.
It's deadly stuff and a few applications only cost £2, I got enough for a tenner to do about ten rods.
It's custom made for the job and once you seal it on with varnish or something similar it's deadly.

Chemical snap lights for me, just tape them on when fishing after dark. Got 100 of them on ebay for under £10.

Breakaway do reflective tape for rods and the like, I used to use tip lights but havent bothered since I found this stuff due to reasons you described. You can see your rod tip for miles with only a low light on it, my headlamp has an led bulb so its not sore on batteries keeping it on all the time.

Same as you Pete - havent used the tip light in I dunno how long - reflective tape and a headlight is all you need - I got some from work (ssshh :wink: ) - its made by 3M if thats any help..

never had a problem with starlights, as long as you tape em properly.

started using tip light.. i really need to replace the tape that's there with something a bit better...

Tape is the way to go. :wink: The rod tip lights are good but you just never know when your line will get tangled around the tip of your rod and your nice 2 piece rod becomes a nice 3 piece rod. :shock:

Halfords do the backing reflective tape for car number plates in both yellow and white. Fantastic stuff and very cheap for the amount you get. :wink: I have it on all my rods and also on my knife, seat box, bait elastic dispensor as it makes things easier to find at night on the beach. :lol: I also put a length down each leg of my tripods. It makes it a great deal easier to see it on a damp winters night when you turn around after casting to find it. Or you could do what has happened to me before, you could just trip over it when not paying attention. :shock: :lol: :oops:

I suppose you could get the car number plate backing at any motor factors?

the tape i have been using before was also for cars... but used as a strip on bumpers.. white and red.. only been able to get hold of red though the last few times.. going to try again today again for white..
mind you.. you'll know when your driving behind me when i'm cycling :shock: :lol:

I prefer to go with tape for the reasons already stated, especially if pendulum casting as the rod starts in a near vertical position.

well it looks like i am going the way of the tape, never thought of putting it on the tripod, might stop me falling over it in the dark, i am also using the tape to out it on my tools so i can find them in the dark, thanks lads for the replies

great advice there steve. I have some reflective stuff on my tripod but not the box and stuff. going to get some on the way home tonight. great tip steve

if you cal get solas approved 3m safty tape its unbelievable.i can only use the 1st setting on my silva headtorch because the reflection is so bright on other settings it hurts my eyes

BELLS!!!! anyone who fishes two rods could miss a good fish while baiting up or nodding off debrock swears by them to :lol:

the stuff they use on garda cars is great to but it,s not very bendy it,s ok for flatter surfaces it comes off with a hair dryer if required :D

just a woed of advice guys, some of that reflective tape u described is way over gunned for the job, industrial style man... you might get a lovely surprise when you try and change it, ur varnish has corroded away and your left with bare whipppings on the tip...not nice at all...

you can get white off gerrys fow £2.50 i think it is? if you are looking for some.

i use tip tape and a tip light!

Check this lad, he sent the tape out to me in a few days, it's great stuff, it does need sealing on with epoxy for a proper job though.
