its hard to know -seems like they have been killing the sharks anyway...

let water find its own level i say. if the sharks eat to many seals then they wont be able to support them selves so there numbers will reduce. once that happens the seals will be able to bounch back. then the shark numbers will increase and so on and so on humans dont need to stick there fingers in.

Devil's Advocate here:
Yes, but it might be too late for the seals by then.
Same principle with commercial fishing - should we allow unrestricted commercial fishing until it is no longer economical and they go out of business? Too late for many fish stocks by then...
OK I'm not advocating shooting commercial fishermen (  ) but its not like you can ask sharks to give up eating seal pups. If their population is not under any threat then perhaps shooting a few in a small area that is globally important to the seal population would be a good trade off in order to preserve a species...?

no perhaps we need to look at the food chain a little closer in this case id would presume that the sharks and seals have been living side by side for centuries and had evolved a sustainable food chain but there must have been something new throw into this chain to upset the balance. shark stocks are already under strain and who's to say that the shark population could support a cull. a step back from this is what is needed and a look at other cause and effects.

i know they are only talking about a shark cull in the 10s - but what happens to them after they are killed - thats what id like to know - there are plenty of people wanting to buy shark this weather
Fri May 25, 2007 1:40 pm
the last thing that anyine could want is to create a market ofr the shark cos after the cull demand will still be there

well we all know the story about fishing for bycatch - what a ridiculous system thats been created
