hi this is mostly for anyone who does some freshwater fishing, but would also be of use to anyone who fishes estuaries for sea trout.....
for anyone in the republic who is interested in becoming a waterkeeper i have drawn up a "how to become a water keeper" document.
the document describes the position, what it entails, how to apply, what to have ready and also has full examples of an application letter and a club support letter. there is also a full copy of the acts of law from which the powers of a water keeper are drawn. there is lots of info in the act describing the powers and responsibilities of a keeper and some tips on carrying out duties
if anyone wants a copy e mailed please contact me

One meself too on local salmon fishery. Far as I'm aware, though not completely 100%, you will need to be vetoed by the regional fishery board which governs the area you fish and that on your card it will state which fisheries you have rights over.

The existing legislation doesn't apply to the sea. I'll be taking this up with the Department on behalf of the IBPAG very soon. Drop me a PM if you want to get involved.

I thought it would be good to bump this post as it might be of interest to others. Its mainly for freshwater but would also cover estuaries . What Adam has put together covers all of what you need to become a Waterkeeper for your club. I became a Waterkeeper for our Salmon club waters last week and would encourage anyone with an interest in the management of the waters that they fish to do the same as you never know when you might need to deal with illegal fishing. For anyone who does go ahead with it you can use the link below to check the times and dates of the courts in your area for when you need to get your letter signed and stamped by the Judge. There was no fee for the stamp on this letter.
