about time.. i used to fish that river years ago.. it had some nice brown trout in it.. but that was 15 yrs ago. :? :?

this time last year - there was a moritorium on building as they couldnt deal with the extra sewrage capacity

1 year later - theyve gotten plans for a new facility in 2 years time - yet -3 new massive housing estates are being built/finishing

isint it obviously what should be built first - infrastructure - then the houses - just you wait til theres a bit of a drought in the river - and a backlog of sewage during the summer - this is going to happen again - on the same facility - with even more volume

this result is a shame really - its hoping that the correct conditions for a similar scenario doesnt arise in 2 years

madening

great theres a result - but its buttons - lip service - as long as the boys get to build - theres no problem

rant over

It had some nice trout and salmon parr in it this time last year - I should know, I had to spend just about the warmest day of the summer (totally hungover to boot) collecting dead ones...... :evil:

lots of people were surprised to hear about the salmon parr - and also the brook/river lampreys

I picked this up from another site.....I am not trying to belittle the gist of this thread or the information in it....but this is funny and may have more truth in it than we know of......

"In a number of carefully controlled trials, scientists have demonstrated
that if we drink 1 litre of water each day, at the end of the year we
would have absorbed more than 1 kilo of Escherichia coli (E. coli)
bacteria
found in faeces. In other words, we are consuming 1 kilo of crap
annually.

However, we do not run that risk when drinking wine (or rum, whisky,
beer or other liquor) because alcohol has to go through a purification
process of boiling, filtering and/or fermenting.
Remember:
Water = crap
Wine = Health

Therefore, it's better to drink wine and talk stupid, than to
drink water and be full of crap.

There's no need to thank me for this valuable information; I'm
doing it as a public service."

Are you sure they were lamprey and not eels? River lamprey adults don't grow to more than 30cm, and they don't have jaws that can bite, just a sucker for attaching to fish.

Salmon weren't introduced, probably salmon only make it that far upstream in certain years as the river dries up downstream in summer, in some years there might not be enough water to get up as far as Athenry

they might not have jaws.. but they do have teeth.. and yes i do know the difference between lamprey and eels..

as for salmon in that river.. when i fished it there were no salmon in it from it's source to the sea... just like there isnt anymore :cry: ..
