Perhaps we could do something similar here...

although would be a good thing to do that, i think bass have enough protection already. remember in England an angler can take as many sizable bass as they want. here it is limited to two and there is no(legal) commercial fishing for them.

All i think the Irish bass need is the enforcement of the law we already have.

I also think that instead of doing this for bass, how about other fish such as flatties, coddling, ray etc........

P.S. the last paragraph is concerning Ireland only. of course it would be great for other countries but i doubt it would ever happen seeing as they haven't even got there bass law sorted out

Of course every law needs to be enforced, otherwise we stay the same. If it didn't we wouldn't need any laws...

I just found the petition last night and thought it could interest some people here. Many times, some do what others think it's wrong out of ignorance. Before I read the petition I didn't know that, although I intend to release all the bass I get when I get any, by rising the size I'd be allowing the fish to spawn at least once (I thought they would have done that before they reached 40cm).

Besides, some wrote in another thread of the possibility of the comercial ban being lifted. A higher minimum size could counteract that if only slightly.

I'm letting our Spanish coleagues know about it too: the minimum size in the Atlantic coast is 36cm, in the Mediterranean even less. Surely there's someone who doesn't know about it. Some do and "self-impose" themselves a higher minimum. My idea was to inform. There's always a beginner like me.

And I agree with you in that other species need protection too.
