See this website
http://www.probassfisher.com its a
celebration of one aspect of the fishing in this country in saltwater. Please dont start with crap regarding tourist anglers killing and taking fish BEFORE we look at ourselves.
After ten years of International and National business, with hundreds of anglers from all over the world going through the doors in a limited valid operating season, leading and developing the idea that someone could guide in saltwater for Bass here
- Where is this promoted or highlighted or championed in this country ?
- Where have we learned that this might mean something?
- Where is it demonstrated that it makes a social and economic contribution?- Where are similar models pointed at and utilised as small successes?
- Where is it demonstrated that such small businesses are SUSTAINABLE?
No where.
jim if i had a fishing guide bussiness. id be a hundred percent behind this survey and would be shouting it out loud for all to hear. because its exactly what i would have been asking to happen for years to be able to justify the protection of bass from comercial fishing by useing economics.but at what cost and who is left to pay for this. just say that this is a successful survey and you get the results you want. and the rest of the angling community is left with a rod license and permit for sea angling .just to fund a protected bass fishing bussiness?im sorry but i feel the right to fish free in the ocean would outweigh any proposals to introduce this stealth tax upon us.no matter what guise they are useing to try and bring this about

Twink
I do feel its a valuable thing to do simply because we have no idea how much its worth is to us - worth not always referring to economics either, there's the very often missed and more simple benefits of angling which needs to come across too.
Call me naive, (or worse) later in the days of this, but I cant see the drive for sea angling or other licensing, sorry guy.
I just cant help wondering is it better to realise that the data might be of more help to us, business or no business.

i do agree that the data collected will benifiet some jim .just not the average joe .it will show there is a new approach needed towards bass fishing and the benifeits to local economies.and the big tourism push needed to launch it and how protecting it from the commercial side would be economically better but that would be all i could agree with.firstly bass are not prolific countrywide so it would be only for a few counties in the south and south east .jim i know well you are one of the best in your field in this country and can see exactly how this looks to you from your perspective.but in my eyes this is the start of something nasty, the infomation can then be used to put the squeeze on all the rest of us ie. permits and licenses then some.we will be told the extra revenue will be used to promote this "new area" of tourism and policing of same. but the ifi will most likely pool this with salmon and trout fees and with the board thats there who would get looked after best?just picture the kids in a few years time asking dad can we go fishing to day? and the father saying sorry son i havent got 40 euros to spare for the permits.

it would be great if these surveys in ireland and the uk showed the huge amount of cash anglers spend on bait, fuel, tackle and accomadation and then the governments realised what we are worth to the economy then they protected the seas reduced pollution in those circumstances id buy a rod licence but then you could do anything in cuckoo land
