Perhaps we might be could voice our concern to the minister for tourism .miss Mary Hanafin .I know She has a great reputation For both listening and unstanding the concerns of everyone.
I believe she was highly regarded when she was minister for eduction .I recon she would be delighted to listen to our concerns and the the impact of any changes in ligistation would on the
tourism sector.

Yes mullets, Mary Hanafin is a very important person to communicate with in relation to bass angling tourism. We would do well to get her on side.

However in relation to this particuar subject (filling out the consulation form for the Northern Ireland bass law change) the best thing we can all do is get as many people we know as possible to fill the form out (it's only typing the words 'I Agree' six times) and e-mail it off to the e-mail address mentioned.

At this present moment this matter and the way we all respond to it is the most important thing in the country in relation to the future of our bass stocks!

Tight lines,
John D.

Just a reminder again to fill out the form to express your opinion on the NI Bass regulations. This took me about one minute to fill in and email. Here's a link to the relevant forum topic ...

The lure of the bass fishing brings me over to Ireland ever other year as I am sure it does many others, have already signed petition i urge anyone who hasnt to do so now and stop the rot before its too late .

Well done Matty on signing the petition and encouraging others across the water to do so. Would you consider driving this message home by sending a letter to Minister Sean Connick (Fisheries) and/or Minister Mary Hanifin (Tourism).
Letters from angling tourists carry much more weight.
Many thanks

Only legal if he's importing them from outside Ireland.

Letters written to Minister for Tourism, Culture & sport and Minister of State for Fisheries & Forestry.

Well done to all and keep up the good work.

NOTE: It is by no means at all possible for anyone to have a licence to fish for bass in Ireland!!!!

As Jonathan said, the only way any person in Ireland can legally hold a box of bass is if they're imported from abroad.

We all need to be reporting this kind of stuff as close to the time it happens as possible.

Report it to 'Inland Fisheries Ireland'.

Just to keep everyone updated, John Quinlan of Irish Bass recently had a brief meeting with Minister Connick about this issue. The Minister said that the Irish Bass Group and bass anglers had been giving him a very hard time about his stance on commercial bass fishing. He said that he was under severe pressure from the FIF to have their proposal accepted and also he was under pressure to allow an inshore commercial line caught bass fishery. However, critically he said that no decision to change the legislation would be made quickly and there would be more consultation on the matter. Coming from a minister who is already on record as saying he was in favour of a commercial bass fishery in Irish waters this clearly shows that all the efforts anglers have made have paid off.

So, we need to keep up our efforts because the message is getting through. Irish Bass hopes to hold a more in-depth meeting with the Minister in the near future. We'll keep everyone here posted. Jonathan,

This is really positive. A concerted organised approach is the only way we have a hope. The big fear is that the bass season will finish and people will start to switch off to the campaign.

Have the Irish Bass Group plans to meet other politicians?

Keep up the good work.

We've had discussions with a few TDs and have had Dail questions asked. We've been focusing on Minister Connick because he has responsibility for this issue.

John Quinlan has also had a meeting with the Marine Institute and in regular contact with other state bodies (Failte Ireland, IFI, etc)

That would be a silly move by the government!
I can only imagine what 4 boats could catch in a week!
I presume it will be line caught?
