Dunlaoghaire-Rathdown restrict angling to designated areas??

On a serious note, the exclusion zones do seem very fair, there is plenty of coast for all of us to enjoy.

these exclusion zones, in my opinion need not be stated, their basically the areas where swimmers congregate en masse every year and are where anglers 99% stay well away from anyway as they are lifeguard zones.

i would have problem if the started excluding anglers year round from these zones, even in depths of winters where there is simply no need for them,

A special meeting of the LPC will take place in the Garda Club on Wednesday 18th June @ 8.00 pm. This special meeting has been convened to discuss the proposed changes to the DLR beach bylaws. It is important that all delegates and IFSA members with a interest in the proposed beach fishing ban attend this meeting.

has anyone seen the proposed development between the east pier and sandycove. i think that DLRCC will be carrying out these works. could it be that they are trying to get angling band because they dont want anglers using the development? i taught the idea for the ban was pulled from the air origionally but this kind of gives a little bit of focus as to why the ban is being proposed for the area. anyways anglers have been fishing for years between the east pier and sandycove (Bug rock) so i dont think they should be able to stop us.

My conclusion - based on there being NO serious documented public objections to angling is that this initiative is coming from within the DLRCC itself for whatever reason.

I asked the "Dun Laoghaire Harbour Company (http://www.dlharbour.ie/)" - a semi-state body that is not covered by FOI legislation btw - why there was no fishing allowed on the marina in DL harbour.

Here's the response. Apparently becuase of the danger to "watercraft" and their "users" (handwritten no less). And the prohibition goes further - and is encoded in bye-laws.

Now. Just how viligant are our angling organisations when it comes to detecting this kind of stuff in future? We need to watch for this stuff ourselves... and resist this crap.

is there no fishing theoretically allowed there currently - was i breaking harbour code last week then - or is it just a case of selective enforcement on their part

Just opened an email/doc from Cllr Carrie Smith re: fishing ban. They are putting the exact proposals back to the council. I've attached the document. In it they say that they met with the IFSA and "both parties left having come to a satisfactory conclusion". Can anyone corroborate this?

That is not true, some crossed wires somewhere. The IFSA are arranging a meeting with the executive, the ifsa is not happy with the current proposals.

I'll let Ms Smith know. But the date on the document is 23rd June which was last Monday. Did any meeting take place between the IFSA and council officials? Could this be an attempt to pull the wool over the eyes of the council?

A meeting took place prior to the IFSA meeting on June 18th. IFSA meeting discussed proposals and IFSA are going back to DLR executive objecting to some of the provisions of bylaws.Carrie sent that letter to me and other IFSA Leinster Council members. I have left a message with Carrie asking her to give me a call

17. FISHING
a) Fishing and angling is prohibited at locations specified in Part IV of Schedule
b) The Council (elected members) may designate other locations or times where fishing and angling is prohibited.
c) No person shall spread, fix or leave any nets, bait, lines, boxes, fishing gear, fish or shells in any such area where fishing is allowed (e.g. any beached area under the Councils control).

Watch out for that one. I read it as saying they can ban fishing anywhere they like later on, without having to consult the public.

Part IV of the Schedule says no fishing at any time of year at the Forty Foot, no fishing at any time of year at Lifeguard areas of 3 other beaches.

That's entirely unreasonable, there's no reason why fishing can't take place in those areas in winter or at night.

17b is definitely a big problem for us and was noted at thye meeting.
