This little fellow was probably my favourite of the year despite 4 PB's in bigger species. The small mouth wrasse was a new species for me, one of 2 new species which came from a new mark for 2012 and which produced a pb ballan the following week. This must be one of the most handsome fish I've ever caught.

davyp wrote:Got very little sea-fishing this year, but this guy was definitely my best catch, fly fishing a new estuary mark i spotted a lovely little rocky outcrop that looked like a perfect spot for a sea-trout to lie in ambush, got him on about the 3 rd cast, fought like an absolute demon - so much better than hauling them in on a beach caster. He weighed just over 3 lb, and was my first sea-trout of the year.
Davy whats your fly? Have you any pics of it? Thats a lovely fish on fly tackle, I'd say you had a good scrap with that one.

Quality catch and Lure!!!

My goal last year was to land a 3lb Sea Trout from somewhere as close to home as possible. I was over the moon to catch this one at 4lb on light tackle from Islandmagee with the wife and kids beside me.

A whopper Dave. Yeah my goal every year is to catch a 3lb sea trout. Had a few at 2.5 but the 3lber eludes me.
That is a very well made sea trout, would you say its maybe an Inver fish? I hear it runs bigger than average fish.
What did it take?

Thanks Cathal, yes it's very likely to be an Inver fish as it was taken from Brown's Bay and I got it on a frozen Sandeel. It really gave a great account of itself with a full-on acrobatic display, leaping clean out of the water about 5 times during the fight in front of everyone on the beach. A couple of other guys fishing on up the beach brought their scales over and weighed it for me, 4lb exactly.

Not the biggest Tope I caught that day, but definitely the most satisfying, and as such probably my best catch of 2012 and all because I caught it on a Savage Gear Bushwhacker spinning rod and 10lb braid.
