Downpatrick Head is privately owned. It is fenced off - to keep the sheep in - but because its an important neolithic and religious site (open air Masses held there) there has always been a public footpath into it. Its also a huge tourist draw. I've never heard of an "angler" - or any visitor - going over the side there.

It does look a bit hair brained, what he's at. Maybe he's very hungry. If he was actually gettin a few decent pollack youd maybe understand it but he's only got one pollack in that bag.

Too true... and great thread! Amazing location!

I recently went back to a mark on a cliff I used to fish with my father and Uncle when I was a kid. Didn't think anything of it then, but it scared the crap outta me this summer! It was dangerous, steep and slippery and I really feared for myself, but would gladly go hoping there back in the day in the dark!

Just goes to show when you are familiar with something there is less danger, for all we know that chap could have been doing it every day... maybe not by the size of the "mackies" ;)

Oh well, I can't say I wouldn't give it a go myself.... just once tho'! :)

In all fairness, and not trying to be a smartarse. Do you really think people need to be told that standing on top of a high cliff like that, with strong winds blowing might be dangerous. If there was a sign, do you think he would have , or been able to read it. If he did read it, would he have taken any notice ?:D
