Sad News ... Courtown Sea-Angling centre.

very sad news.... very funny man, some of his stories nearly had me wet myself with laughter.
going to be strange not seeing him around the shop or harbour.

Hey lads
This is Jack Redmond of Courtown Harbour. I felt compelled to login just to say on behalf of the family, thank you all very much for your deeply touching and heart felt tributes. They really were a source of comfort.
We got the shop opened up again there yesterday and although it wont be today or tomorrow 'The Puffin' will be up n running again soon.
I'll leave you's with a few words about what my father was to me

So where now do I see you?
I see you smile across your shoulder as we leave the piers behind,
I see you hold the trawl warp as we pull a net,
Feeling, knowing every bump and rock in this, our small lot of ocean.

Or perhaps I see you in the wood,
The chainsaw buzzing under it’s masters touch,
As we ferry lengths of wood to the road side,
So accustomed to each others movements,
That there was seldom need for words.`

I see you there in the shed,
With sawdust all across you,
Finishing a promise that was made for the next morning,
Breaking yourself to keep your word.

I see you talking to strangers,
In your usual welcome way,
Sharing stories, telling yarns and laying emotions bare,
So that others might do the same.

So how now shall we part,
Not in grief, nor pain, nor sorrow.
Rather I would hear you say those words,
Which filled me up with joy,
As your reel began to scream
‘Fish on …. gotta go boy’

jack that was absolutley beautiful. like all the other anglers that use the site and the shop we will also never forget your dad .and look forward to seeing you all when im down very soon .that was a lovely tribute to your dad

The Dillinger, a name which he inherited from his father and grandfather, was one of Courtown's most loved and wellknown characters. His shop at Seamount Cottages, was a meeting place for locals, passers-by and customers, where a chat, a witticism, or even a problem were often shared.

Born and reared in Courtown, he worked on trawlers in his younger years, and started working in shipping as a deckhand at the age of 17. He travelled all over the world, going on his first long voyage on the Irish Cedar to New York in 1970. But wherever he travelled, his heart always remained in Courtown

During his funeral, his trademark cap lay on the coffin at the altar. His son Jack paid tribute to him on behalf of the family. 'So how now shall we part? Not in grief, nor pain, nor sorrow.
