Dunlaoghaire-Rathdown restrict angling to designated areas??

Any chance they would give us the minutes of that area committee meeting??

could we get a map of the 4 areas to be restricted full time - is this just within the view of the lifeguard area or is it extended along a defined stretch of the coast from the lifeguard hut etc.

that is not the current proposal in the draft by-laws.

We will be forbiddent to fish in 4 specific areas at all times.

Before the meeting, get a quick comp going on one of the places angling is going to be banned......... see what happens.

Probably nothing, as the byelaws wouldn't be passed yet there would be nothing they could do! And so many anglers at a bathing area would probably sway some councillors into voting for the ban... :roll:

This is being brought up for a vote on Monday .

Amendments will be accepted from Councillors, but we need to start lobbying individual councillors quickly.

Executive will be represented by Richard Shakespeare (not Owen Keegan, Co. Manager)

Get someone to table an ammendment. Can that be done?

Can someone organise anglers outside the offices? ie IFSA?

Can Failte Ireland and ERFB be alerted and can they do anything?

That's more of a point of order than an ammendment. Who is xxxxxx, anyhow?

the forty foot, ive fished there since i was 6 with me granddad, my dad learned the ropes there too as a boy, holds a serious amount of memories and nostalgia , if they think their stopping me fishing there the can f off and stay there. next theyl be stopping kids netting shrimps and catching crabs in the rocks pools on health and safety grounds, shower of green anoraks. why do swimmers get preferential treatment over us anglers. if angling is banned in these designated areas (only spots where people fish on a regular basis) it would have a major negative effect on business in the shop, obviously a healthy thriving economy isnt on their wish list, i suppose the major influx of swimmers buying ice creams at teddy's, that will be come back swimming after years of fear from us dangerous blood thirsty anglers will right that. rant over :evil:

I vbelieve he was involved in the drafting of the by-laws.

This whole episode stinks.

I sent an e-mail to every councillor when the issue first arose - I got replies from them all and even entered into some e-mail discussion with a small number.

A Nigerian colleague of mine e-mailed *exactly the same list* with the same issue (I dictated the e-mail). The number of responses: ONE. From Cllr Carrie Smyth (same person who tipped me off again this time, and the only one to update me after that last round). Draw yer own conclusions.

I've been around Sandycove for a very long time. I can remember Ben Dunne Senior in his Pontiac Firebird (sic) - pulling up to swim in the Forty Foot in the early 70's.

Most people who swim in the FF are OK. but there's a bunch of people there for whom the words "social inclusion" mean nothing.

they can bring in what ever laws they want i will fish were i want in the sea as no one owns the sea. i said we should be militant at the start now its to late we got shafted.

Just brought myself back up to speed on the issue tonight.

For what it's worth the O.P.W. sold off the Old Head of Kinsale to have it turned into an exclusive golf course a few years back.

Munster Council got an agreement where I.F.S.A. members could produce an up to date membership card and enter the area to fish.

At the moment Leinster anglers seem to be on the wrong side of the line.

It may not be the answer to the problem but at least it might be a lifeline to work on.

Have any one got the Angling Council of Ireland involved.

IFSA members look after their fishing area and keep it clean and show respect for other users. This point should not be lost in our argument.

Everyone, bar the councilors, know it's the mackerel bashers are the main problem with the public.

production of an IFSA card albeit it a compromise should be enough - bar there actually being bathers in there already before you arrive to fish

Agreed that there is an element of social exclusion going on here big time.

But aren't there local elections next year (or the year after)? Get onto Richard Boyd-Barrett about this. Put down the point of order about xxxxxx swimming regularly at the Forty Foot.

I'd advise people, especially those in DLR, to start ringing councillors asking them to table an amendment.

Another point, it is excluding anglers with mobility problems from angling on these beaches. The entrances are normally within the lifeguard area, so they won't even have on option of fishing in these areas out of hours or out of season.

Is there a copy anywhere of the proposed ammendment that mentioned prohibiting angling when a lifeguard was on duty?

Fishing and Angling is not permitted at the locations outlined in schedule 2 between the hours of 10am – 8pm during the Months May to September.

I just received a copy of an email sent by one councillor to Richard Shakespeare. They were asking him to revert to the 10am-8pm May-September proposal because "we are a maritime county, the sea is our biggest asset and these fishermen are some of my voters".
