Dunlaoghaire-Rathdown restrict angling to designated areas??

Any Beach Bye-Laws that I've come across (Wexford, etc.) will claim jurisdiction up to 200m from the low-water mark. (I know this isn't exactly what you asked ;) )

i dont know about bye-laws - but i was always lead to believe that from the High Water mark down is the commons

See Attached received this morning. Scanner not working properly so 1 docs across 2 pages/PDF's. This was attached to a personal letter from the Dept. Tourism in response to my earler letter to them and explaining that they work at a national level and not at a local level.

Anyone hear anything else??

I gota a letter just before I left- the gist of it is that the council is referring proposals to ban angling between lifeguard flags to its law agent. It will come up for discussion again in January.

This is just bloody stupid and makes me really angry. I am from Dublin and I like so many others done my angling apprenticship fishing on this beach and many others in my home town. I know the place well and the 'THREAT' that is concerning these prats! This is typical nonsense brought on by a bunch of fuddy duddys who don't even understand what anglers actually DO. Just like the above post says, Anglers dont' fish where people are swimming. ANnglers barely even fish beaches in daylight! This again is a typical example of nobody caring less what the angler wants. It seems that every time there is an issue affecting us that nobody takes us seriously as a group. I mean is someone wanted to close a cricket pitch in Dalkey there would be bloody murder and lets be honest?

This really is crazy talk. This is Irelansd for gods sake. Its not Bermuda. People don't go swimming on Irish beaches. Or very few do and only in summer. And what angler would be casting out and swinging leads whilst surrounded by people lying on towels and playing on air beds?

The thing that really boils my blood though is that i would bet €20 that this actually DOES go ahead!

I have to admit I did cringe more than a little when I saw the shot in the attached BBC report where the guy is talking about safety and to illustrate the point they showed a shot of one of the anglers on the beach having a small pendulum cast just as a lady walked out of shot, as if to illustrate their point.

yea that was a bit unfortunate

that does sound unfortunate alright. I did not see that report. But even still there are two sides to that argument too. If you were walking on a golf course would you walk right accross the path of where golfers were driving balls? It is obvious that the angler in question should have been more careful. As i said i have not seen the report but even if this guy was a complete idiot which i'm sure he is not and simply made a mistake, the woman walking should also have a bit of cop on and not walk so close to someone casting?

In all fairness as a fisherman I can see that it was calculated and there was no danger and I suspect the guy himself was a little caught up with being in the limelight at the time and not paying the attention he normally would.
It was simply unfortunate.

A report on the Draft Beach Bye Laws was presented to the Dun Laoghaire Area Committee meeting held on 22nd October, proposing amendments in light of submissions received.

These proposed amendments were discussed by the Councillors in attendance and it was decided that fishing will not be allowed "between signed areas (i.e. lifeguard patrol areas) from May to September between the hours of 10am and 8pm.

Fishing will be allowed at this location at all other times.

There will be no further public consultation.

OR,

They've taken the decision to ban, and now are checking with the legal bods about how to go about it.......

Bad news, either way. I know it's just the principle, but if principles aren't worth fighting for, they're not worth having.
