Great observations in this.... the charges area is one I did not think of.
One other point. Should there be a 're-grouping' of ideas from this forum/thread over the next few days and before the 28th deadline for submissions? Should we look for a concensus - with areas where we agree to disagree - and then submit submissions. Or do we all do our own thing?

I'll try and make some time to glean the various points that a person could make in a submission (unless someone else wants to) . Everyone should write their own.
I'll draw up a letter summarising the main consensus here and run it hby the WSC before I send it off.

Any chance that you post the text of your letter here so we can sign it and send it, too?
What I mean is that it would make some impression if not inly they all use the same words in their replies but also we send the same texts in our submissions? Like a petition signed on the street but not on one list but on 350 pages of letters... You knwo what I mean!

I will do that too- I think people are better off writing in their own words- form letters make less of an impression on Officials and Councillors.

I believe many of us will already have submitted objections in their own words! This might just be another step on the way. It might also get more people to send something. I will print it out and have a few friends here in Germany sign it before I send it off so it gets petition character, if you don't mind?

Re: the idea of charging as mentioned in the village article...... I hope that doesn't give them any ideas!
btw I've emailed all of the councillors now as a concerned english angling tourist, they must be wondering what a can of worms they've opened at this stage!

Let's hope our can of worms is a really smelly one!

The proposal was drafted by the executive,
not the councillors.

Yes. I drew RBB's attention this by contacting the Save Our Seafront campaign.

Also, don't know if you read the irish Times, but there has been a thread of letters in it - one from me on directly on the subject:
Dear Madam
How utterly shameful for Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council to seek a blanket prohibition on sea angling in the district, and to move forward without consulting with angling representatives ( Angling Notes, 27 July, 2007). The Irish Times is to be thanked for bringing this intention to public attention. To implement such a draconian measure on a outdoor leisure activity popular with families and immigrants to this country at a time when the media is full of reports of family strife, childhood obesity due to inactivity, and concerns over racism says as much for councillor awareness of social issues as for their contempt for the consultation process.
I have fished in the district since 1976. I can only wonder what is behind this proposal now - a further private concern attempting to deprive the public of the sea as an amenity for all, or mean-spirited disdain of those who cannot afford helicopters and BMWs to commute to private golf courses or race meetings?
Yours Faithfully,
and then others letters referencing it but mostly wondering what the council are doing about the amount of human faeces in the water at Seapoint. there has been no response from the Council.
I believe there is an element of racism involved yes, - talking to the locals, one said there's an attitude they (i.e., complainers) don't want "these Poles and Chinamen all over the place".

Assuming the writing-in campaign is going ok, is it now time to consider the next move?
I reckon it's time to start organising the demo. You know, large crowd of anglers gathered outside the CoCo's offices when the Councillors arrive to discuss proposals.
Coupled perhaps with a "Fish-in" on an affected beach the day before/same day?

This was the piece in The Sunday Independent a few weeks ago
A PROPOSAL to ban fishing for pleasure along the shores of Dublin Bay has been branded “rubbish” by a local TD.
Now a unique cross-party coalition is in revolt against the proposal by Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council ( DLRCC) to ban angling on the coastline it controls in south county Dublin.
New ‘ beach by-laws’ drafted by the Council has proposed that fishing for pleasure will not be allowed to happen on the beaches of Booterstown, Blackrock, Seapoint, Sandycove, the Forty Foot, the Ramparts, Hawk Cliff, White Rock, Killiney and Corbawn Lane — almost the entire coastline of south Dublin.
Instead, fishing for pleasure will be restricted to two small areas, Coliemore and Bullock harbours in Dalkey.
However, politicians of all the major parties are in revolt.
Senator Martin Brady claimed it was a case of “ bureaucracy gone barmy” and local TD Barry Andrews claimed the decision was outrageous. Labour Party’s ‘leader in waiting’, Eamon Gilmore, suggested that the Council “ should deal with the real issues instead of creating grandiose laws which only irritate ordinary hard-working people”.
The former Fine Gael Minister for the Marine Sean Barrett TD said: “I’ve never heard of such rubbish”, and Olivia Mitchell asked: “What are they going to ban next, fun?”
The most puzzling feature of the decision is that there appears to be no strong reason for this act.
After all, it is not as though a few children and some poor oul’ fellas with rods represent a threat to world fish stocks.
A spokesperson from the Communications Office of the Council said the ban was informed by “health and safety” issues, the Council’s “duty of care” to users of the beaches and a desire to secure “better balance for all beach users”.
But the Council admitted that it had received no formal complaints about shore fishing just “anecdotal phone conversation”.
The Council was also eager to note that the new law was in draft form only and could be amended by councillors when the public consultation process was over.
But one local representative said: “If they don’t actually want to ban fishing, why is it being proposed?” and claimed that “ all this consultation stuff was a sham”.
The new by- laws also propose that walking the dog on a beach between the hours of 10.30 am to 7.00 pm should be prohibited.

We don't know the date of the council meeting when by-laws will be voted upon.

I don't know about these demos unless you're going to keep at it full-time like RBB can. Just MHO...
I think a call to Joe Duffy's liveline or an article published in the local paper (Southside Express) would be a good thing.
And how about an getting something into the Polska Herald? Please don't tell me there are no Poles on this forum...:)
Btw, couple of days ago I got an acknowledgement from the CoCo (Patricia O'Keefe, Beaches section) for my written submission on the matter.

big time on the fish in man!!!!

Might be a big thought but what about PrimeTime?
It is a ridiculous waste of tax payer's money to even consider this instead of talking about serious matters when in the council meetings and the simple fact that there has been no formal complaint only on the phone anecdotal talking - why the heck do we have to go through all of this?!
There has to be a TV program that covers stuff like this!

Also had letter of the week on RTE Seascapes about the matter.
You have to wonder what the so-called Angling organisations are doing on this issue of late in brining the matter to public attention and speaking publicly against the proposal - nothing I suspect.

There are 3 such Representatives in this thread, perhaps they would like to answer your question for us all to see.
