My most satisfying this year was finally landing a decent conger at a mark i'd fished for them on many a session as it always looked good for them but where they seemed shy as I'd often only had dropped runs. My first fish to lift out of here was at least worth the wait. 24lb 2oz.

I think he was 12lb's but I cant remember for sure. This is the video of when he caught it and many more pollock the same day, he caught a good few on the surface and I can vouch that the water there is at least 30ft deep and more in spots, I dont know how he manages to lure them up. The video gives you a good idea of how effective fly fishing for pollock can be.
Gotta be this chap. Not the biggest fish of the year, just the fight he put up and the colour's of him etc... no idea of weight, just quick snap and returned.

Nice. My most memorable fish of last year was a 47cm sea trout. No photo, sadly.

Got it in freshwater in the Lackagh on a Flashmer. It was just in off the tide, still liced. I don't usually have a camera with me, just the phonecamera, but I was more concerned at getting it released again. I got the measure of it against the butt of the rod and I reckon it was around the 3 lbs mark. I thought it was a wee grilse when it first hit. Lovely fish, nice to think of it doing well upriver.

This 1lb 14oz sea trout was very pleasing because that evening I hadnt got my sea trout in the sea fly box with me, the light was going down and I hadnt time to lose so had to go out with a box of brown trout lake flies. The biggest fly in the box and the one most shaped like a small fish was a size 8 longshank walkers mayfly nymph. This fish was very satisfying because for a few years I had been putting a lot of thought and effort into which fly patterns to use for sea trout in salt water. So catching a better than average sea trout for this area in salt water on a fly which would never have been used if it wasnt the only thing I had to use was great.
A mayfly nymph might get a swim or 2 on purpose this coming summer. Doesnt look like an almost 2lber against that big airflo fly reel but it is quite a big reel.

I know they arent always easy to photo but a fish like that I'd hate not to have a pic of, even if just in the net before release. Super fish at 47cm, they take a lot of beating in my book.

Mine would be a 6lb bass and a 2.5lb Flounder on the same session,
On the down side of that session tho my 4x4 became a 0x0 had to get towed from Youghal to Dungarvan, spend the night in a hotel then get someone to come pick us up the following morning and bring us back to Dublin.....
