I think you might be way off with this one. Nearly every chinese / Indian shop I have been in has some form of Frozen Carp in the freezer. I've never seen pike. Carp are farmed for food all over Europe. They were imported to Ireland & the UK as a food source in the 14th century.

Absolutly disgusted to hear this.... They are simply not doing their jobs. I know it's hard to find the time and energy to keep fighting agains't this sh!te when all you want to do is go fishing, but we need to keep reporting these types of activities. If the guards do not seen interested, ask for a reference number for you complaint. Always ask for the name of the person you are talking with at the start of the conversation always offer your name as well.. They will connect better with you and your issue. Failing that, you have a name when you forward a written complaint to the area superintendent. We have to keep up the campaing lads and to be effective we must try our best to get all sides involved.

In fairness, as I found out later, quite a few of them were at a murder scene that afternoon, and there was a festival on in Salthill that required policing too, so they were stretched quite thin. We would usually have one or two guys (who fish themselves) we can ring directly for assistance, but they're not always on duty...

Sounds fair enough to be honest.... I would still encourage people to report any suspicious behavior around the lakes or sea shore.... Be vigilant and hopefully the poachers / netters / scumbags will get the message...
