Great idea  simple, cheap and educational 8)

Was fishing Greystones years ago, on Xmas eve, where the diving board used to be and a swimmer came down dived in swam out about 20 yards and back when he got out he was purple. So some of them are hardy lads. :D :D

i used to do both fish and swim all year round.the water normally feels warmer than the air temp but as your doing it every day you get really used to it.but couldent imagine just turning up christmas morning and jumping in now. major heart attack  its been a few years since i shore fished around gr eystones.but can remember the rocks to the right of the harbour been a cess pit of urine and baitboxes beer bottles and cans .iwent down with my wife and kids got the stench and moved down to the beach .when you enter in to howth harbour and you will only see this clearly from the boat the amount of debris and rubbish stuffed between the rocks and boulders ,makes it look like a land fill. most of this comes from anglers who fish howth harbour  swimmers and anglers have always got on ok. ie its a big beach so what has changed?we have to ask our selves .have we as a group been guilty of littering ?we had newspaper reports of dogs been caught up in rigs left behind on a beach .swimmers stepping on hooks left behind . and probley the worst was a 3 year old stepping on a hot barbecue buried in the sand on britas. this is all bad publicity for our sport.and this behaviour gives the likes of this small swimming group enough ammo to sink any counter claim we could make.sad, but a reality check for all of us who fish in this area.blown out of the water by a few who dont give a toss about littering this area and intimadating the local people by been loutish and drunk under the disguise of been an angler.
