Bag limit is absolute rubbish, like the lads are saying get rid of the factory ships etc first!! one haul of mackerel on a factory ship wouldn't come close to what every angler, put together, would catch in a season!

Irish Annual quota for mackerel for 2011 is approximately 68,000 tonnes.
http://debates.oireachtas.ie/dail/2011/01/12/00025.aspJp can you get out that magic calculator and tell us how many Macks that equates to ?

if a mackerel weighs around 500 grams, that would be 2000 to the ton you'd be talking 136 million mackerel
is that right

mmmmmmmmmmmm.... Hugh Fearnley-Whitingstall is using his "Fish-Fight" Campaign to encourage the world to eat more Mackerel. trawler catches will, no doubt, increase if Mac becomes a staple fish. Hope they increase their breeding rate accordingly.
I'll still fill the bait freezer and enjoy the flavour of freshly smoked barbied Mac!

yeah the small one's are easy to shake off but its pointless putting mack's back after handeling them I wouldn't think they bring in bag limit's on mackerel as they grow faster then bass and cod
