Your right it is all about money, but isnt the bass survey I filled in also about how much they are worth to the recreational angler,

And you wont. Its nearly all sold directly into the food trade - restaurants, hotels etc - often before its even caught.

I dispute Home From The Seas' assertion that there are less salmon in rivers after the drift net ban. Up here on the Moy system and general North Mayo/Sligo area, there was little change for the first two seasons following the ban, but last year there was a dramatic increase in fish entering the rivers from the sea. The ban works.

I got the Cliff House Hotel cookbook for xmas. Its a hotel on the cliff overlooking the bay with Ardmore ballyquinn etc. The chef a dutch guy who uses all local produce/ingredients in his cooking. He has a recipe for bass and says " as tempting as it is to accept the wild bass from many anglers offering it to me at the hotel I source the bass from france because of regulations etc"
